We’re all missing our normal groups and activities at the moment and hopefully it won’t be long now before we’re back together! One of the things I miss most is catching up with other parents – and Kids Kitchen Virtual Playgroup is as much for the grown-ups as it is the kids!
- 45 minute session of fun for the kids with a simple food based sensory play activity
- We can chat over a hot cuppa- about food, recipes or anything else that takes our fancy – just like a normal playgroup!
- There’s a full-blown recipe that will see you through to lunch if you’re feeling adventurous (no pressure!)
Our session leaders will be there to facilitate the activity and discussion and to answer your questions and share some tips and ideas.
This week, we will be letting the kids loose with some mash!
This is a firm favourite in our house when it comes to kitchen activities! The kids tend to eat some as they mash too so it’s a healthy snack as well as a fun sensory activity!
Potato is clearly the obvious choice for mashing, but we will be mashing some beans and talking about our Beany Burritos recipe, which you can find here.
Butter beans, black beans, cannelini beans or any tinned beans you have to hand would work! The only other things you need to join in is a big bowl and a masher! Easy!
Of course, potatoes are great too so feel free to boil up some spuds and use them for this session if you prefer, then you could turn it into our Shepherdess Pie, as seen in this video.
This week is also the Spring Equinox, so we will be chatting about how to turn some of our mash ideas into a fabulous Spring Equinox family tart and also use our pastry making skills!
