The Big Skill – Session Ingredients

Have you signed up to join us for one of our free Saturday Family Cookalong sessions? There’s still time to register if you want to join us, for one session or all three! Just drop us an email:

This is what you will need for each recipe:

Saturday 6th February – Beany Burritos

This is a great option for a quick and easy dinner, and you can adapt the filling depending on what you have to hand.

Tortilla wraps

Tinned beans (black beans, butter beans, cannellini beans, or similar)

Spring onion

Fresh coriander or parsley

Spices (eg. paprika & cumin)

Feel free to add other ingredients too!

Chopping board

Knife (child safe – table knives are fine!) Grater

Large bowl

Saturday 13th February – Cous Cous Volcanoes

This is ALWAYS a popular one with younger kids! But it is actually a really healthy and tasty meal on its own, or as a side to something else.

Cous cous

Assorted veg: eg carrots, courgette, sweetcorn, peppers, spring onion etc

Tomato passata

Basil / oregano (fresh or dried)

Seasoning eg paprika

Chopping board

Knife (child safe – table knives are fine!)

Scissors (child safe!)

Large bowl

Jam jar or pot with lid

Saturday 20th February – Mini Tarts

These delicious little tarts can be pretty much anything you want them to be! Once you have mastered the pastry (and it really is simple – promise!) you can have fun adding anything you like to them – sweet or savoury!

For the Pastry-

Plain flour

Oil (olive / vegetable etc)

We will be doing roasted veg – sweet potato, onion, carrot, peppers, tomato, garlic, basil

but you could try a pizza style filling with vegetables and tomato passata, or keep it simple with some fruit and cinnamon.

Big bowls

Knife (child safe – table knives are fine!)

Chopping board

Roasting tray

Rolling pin

Muffin / tart tin

Pastry brush

Round pastry cutter (you can also use a cup / small bowl)

As with all our sessions, we encourage you to adapt the recipes depending on what you have in the cupboard and are always happy to discuss options during the session. Getting the kids involved is always our aim but please don’t worry if they aren’t in the mood to cooperate – we’ve all been there and our sessions are always fun, friendly and absolutely no pressure! You don’t even need to have your camera on if you don’t want to!

See you on Saturday!
