Our Herefordshire Hub are very pleased to be working with The Living Room to provide bags of specific ingredients for families to use alongside our Recipe Activity Videos.
The Living Room is a new not-for-profit Community Larder, cafe and safe space in Hereford. Set up at the start of this year - and then faced with the Covid Lockdown, it has overcome a lot of obstacles to establish itself as the fantastic community resource it now is! People can register as members for a small weekly fee and they then have access to the Community Larder for their shopping essentials. The team there are committed to making it a vibrant community hub and in time it will offer various support groups and counselling for those facing loneliness, hardship, deprivation or vulnerability.
Our Recipe Activity Videos are based on some of our most popular recipes, including a fun, food based activity for preschoolers and toddlers as part of a healthy, nutritious, simple recipe that the whole family can cook and enjoy together. By teaming up with The Living Room, we can offer these bags for free to young families in their community and enable them to try out these recipes when they may not have otherwise been able to access them.
Your ingredients bag will contain:
A link to a short Recipe Activity Video - with simple steps to enable families to cook along in their own home.
A 'Recipe Activity Pack' which outlines the ingredients included and gives the actual recipe in simple steps too, ensuring that even those without internet access can still benefit.
All the ingredients needed for the activity AND a family meal!
Lockdown has shown us that we can improve the accessibility of our resources even in the harshest of circumstances and we've been able to adapt far quicker than we imagined this year! The ingredients bag project has been borne out of the need to help more families access our sessions and recipes. It initially started as a collaboration with Leominster Food Bank in lockdown, to offer ingredients bags to accompany our online cookalong sessions. The success of this, coupled with the ongoing, and ever-changing coronavirus restrictions, meant we were keen to expand this project. We have similar projects in our East London Hub too.
We currently have funding to offer a couple of different recipes to families who want to access the ingredients bags through either The Living Room or Leominster Food Bank this month and we hope to continue with this next year as well, depending on our finances. We are also hoping that this collaboration with The Living Room can grow to include us offering face to face family cooking sessions in the Community Room as well as a range of recipe resources to help their families get the most out of the food on offer in the Community Larder.
