What a year it has been. Alice the co-ordinator says: "I'm very proud of how we have managed to adapt to the ever changing circumstances and still reach families across the hub.
We have cooked remotely, we have distributed cooking ingredients bags to families (via food aid groups, setting up our own stalls or just cycling to your doorsteps), we have done the odd socially distanced event (in between lockdowns...), we have trained some wonderful people who are now part of the team, we have stayed connected in any way we could with our families and even reached new ones.
What could have been a time of real struggle for the organisation (and it was of course challenging) we have turned into an opportunity to connect with some great organisations doin
g amazing work in the community:
The Hornbeam (a long standing partner and a wonderful team to work with), The Walthamstow Toy Library who have been such a lifeline for parents, The Paradox Centre and their social Pantry, The Leyton Community Food, Pl84U, The Lloyds Park Children Centres, The Walthamstow Garden Party team, The Friday Hill TMO, I'm hoping I'm not forgetting anyone!
And none of this would have been possible without our wonderful team: Carmen leading sessions online and in the real world; Naseem who is the star of our amazing Biryani video together with her grandchildren; Kelda who did great work in our online sessions earlier in the year; Sam who come to us through our
ESFA training project and is now an invaluable member of the team and an amazing support to me (running around sourcing food rescue ingredients, giving us great ideas and bringing some fresh enthusiasm to the team).
Blowing our own trumpet doesn't come naturally to any of us but looking back at what we have been able to achieve feels really good. And now we are getting ready to go back to face to face sessions and make the most of the Great British summer. We are sooooooooo looking forward to seeing you again."
Stay connected with us - face to face sessions coming to East London soon!
