Online Hub Session – Thursday 21st October: ‘Mazing Mashing!

Hello! No more missing out, here at Kids Kitchen we are coming to you! In our Kids Kitchen Online Session we want to make sure each family has the opportunity to join in, feel included, have fun and cook great food together with one of our pressure free cooking activities wherever you are, whatever your circumstances. Meet other parents from the comfort of your own home, explore skills, tastes and ideas – Welcome Everyone!

What we have planned is as much for the grown-ups as it is the kids!

  • 45 minute session of fun for the kids with a simple food based sensory play activity
  • We can chat over a hot cuppa- about food, recipes or anything else that takes our fancy – just like a normal playgroup!
  • There’s a full-blown recipe that will see you through to lunch if you’re feeling adventurous (no pressure!)

Our session leaders will be there to facilitate the activity and discussion and to answer your questions and share some tips and ideas.

This week we’ll be getting the kids mashing, smashing and bashing!

This is a firm favourite in our house when it comes to kitchen activities! The kids tend to eat some as they mash too so it’s a healthy snack as well as a fun sensory activity!

Potato is clearly the obvious choice for mashing, but beans – butter beans, black beans, cannellini beans or any tinned beans you have to hand are good too! We will be mashing both to make a classic – Sausages and Mash! Check out what you’ll need and the recipe here.

We will be adding an extra ingredient to our potato mash – apple – because Thursday is also National Apple Day!

The only other things you need to join in is a big bowl and a masher! Easy!

There are many meals and snacks to made from mashing. Try our Gnocchi recipe and add a seasonal touch by making them with pumpkin and apple, or our Beany Burritos or Shepherdess Pie. And if it’s a snack you’re after, try our Rainbow Houmous Wraps.
