There’s still time whip up some tasty Mince Pies with our super simple recipe, which we’ve made in previous sessions in both Matson and Cheltenham.
The recipe includes lots of exciting jobs, sure to keep little hands busy; chopping, stirring, mixing, squeezing, rolling and brushing.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 handfuls of dates
- 2 apples
- 1 cup of raisins
- ½ cup candied peel
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. mixed spice
- 2 oranges
- 200g Flour
- 6 tbsp. oil
- 4 tbsp. water (or more as required)
- Milk of choice (we used soya)
METHOD:
- CHOP the dates
- GRATE the orange peel
- SQUEEZE the orange to get the juice
- GRATE the apple
- MIX apple, raisins, candied peel, orange juice, dates, and spices
- MIX flour and oil. ADD the water slowly to form a soft dough. REST for 30 mins
- ROLL the dough, CUT round shapes (with a cup or biscuit cutter), and place the rounds in an oiled muffin tin
- SPOON in the filling. CUT shapes out of the remaining dough and place on top of the filling
- BRUSH with your choice of milk, and BAKE for 10-15 mins at 180C/gas mark 4 until golden.
What are you waiting for? Crank up the Christmas music, pop oven on, and let’s get baking!
