Kids Kitchen Online: Vegetable Biriyani 20th of October

No need to head to the curry house this week! Our wonderful Nani Naseem will walk us through this delicious recipe full of wonderful spices, vegetables and aromatics.

This is another great recipe to have in your repertoire, we will talk you through just how to get your children involved in the prep so making dinner can become a fun activity for the family to do together.

And ingredients…

1 cup basmati rice

1 and half cups of a selection of vegetables (Green beans, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, peas, sweet corn, peppers , broccoli)

Half a can of chickpeas (or other pulses)

Tomatoes (tinned or fresh)

2/3 tablespoons of oil

An onion

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

few cloves of garlic

small piece of ginger

half teaspoon of turmeric powder

salt and pepper to taste

1 teaspoon of garam masala

a few coriander and mint leaves

We have started giving measurements as it was suggested by one of our attendees it would be helpful. The above recipe will feed about 2/3 adults. Spices are pretty important in this one but if you are missing any join us anyway and you can ask Naseem about other options.

A short note about ingredients: we try to use local and seasonal produce and tweak recipes accordingly. Tweaking is also something we got used to when we were only allowed to leave home for essentials and we have fully embraced it, it helps with avoiding food waste which is great. For this reason we’ve given you loads of options, please don’t be daunted by them! We will also help with substitutions on the day.
