Come and join us for the first of our BRAND NEW exciting Growing and Cooking Sessions at The Willow Cafe with Aspire Growing!
(Please note this session was originally advertised for Monday 19th but has been postponed due to the Bank Holiday on that date for the funeral of HRH Queen Elizabeth.)
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Aspire, a fantastic organisation supporting people with learning disabilities to live and work independently. They run they lovely Willow Cafe behind Widemarsh Children’s Centre and also have an amazing vegetable garden there. They have invited us to use the space in the cafe and include some of their fantastic produce from their garden in our sessions. You can find out more about them and their work on their website here.
Each session will start with us going round the veg garden to select and harvest some of the vegetables and herbs we will be using to cook with in our session! Talking about how they have been grown and how to choose which ones are ready to pick will help children learn more about the process. We will then wash and prepare them for our cooking session!
We will be creating a delicious, healthy lunch together, from scratch, using the vegetables we have picked. Our session leader Kay will guide you and your child through the preparation of a simple meal that we will then all share and eat together.
All our sessions are aimed at under 5s and their parent / carer. We get the children involved in every step of the process, from the picking to the chopping, mixing and measuring and of course the washing up! These fun and friendly sessions are relaxed and inclusive, with toys available for those who don’t want to join in with the entire session and hot and cold drinks available to purchase from the cafe.
This session is the first of several monthly sessions at this new venue and is funded by money from the Herefordshire Community Foundation’s Resilience Fund. We are very grateful to them for their support.
Book your space here to ensure you don’t miss out!
