Festive Wraps in Matson

Child wearing a Kids Kitchen apron, spooning freshly prepared seasonal vegetables and houmous into a wrap.

Earlier this month we made Festive Wraps together at the Redwell Centre in Matson. A fun, festive twist on a veggie wrap, with a tasty houmous, zesty dressing, and seasonal vegetables. The children and grown-ups had plenty of chopping, grating, twisting, grating, and eating to do!

Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Carrot
  • Cucumber
  • Lettuce
  • Parsnip
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Satsumas or oranges
  • Limes
  • Oil
  • Cinnamon
  • Chickpeas
  • Red Peppers (roasted in a jar) or cooked beetroot
  • Lemon (optional)
  • Wraps
  • Edible food art pens (optional)

METHOD:

  • PREPARE the vegetables – PEEL then CHOP or GRATE the carrot, SLICE or PEEL the cucumber, TEAR the lettuce with hands or SNIP with scissors. GRATE or PEEL the parsnips, TEAR, CHOP or GRATE the brussels sprouts. MIX together in a bowl.
  • MAKE the dressing – SQUEEZE juice from the satsumas and limes into a bowl. DRIZZLE some oil and SPRINKLE some cinnamon.
  • MIX together. POUR dressing on to the vegetables. MIX!
  • MAKE the houmous – CRUSH chickpeas with a fork or the bottom of a cup, SNIP or CHOP peppers/beetroot and MUSH together.
  • SPREAD the houmous on to a wrap and TOP with the veggies. WRAP and EAT! You can CUT your wrap to look like a Christmas tree or a Santa hat, or DRAW festive decorations and WRITE messages using edible pens.

Why not fill a wrap with leftovers from your Christmas lunch? This is a fab recipe to use up leftovers, or bargain 5p supermarket veg, but there’s nothing to stop you from throwing your favourite vegetables (or your child’s) into the mix!

We’re looking forward to our next session at the Redwell Centre on Wednesday 7th January, when we’ll be making another delicious seasonal lunch together. Save your spot here*

*Please note bookings will close at 5pm on Tuesday 6th January (or sooner if the session is fully booked).
