Community Member: Annie

Annie has set up and led sessions in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire.

Annie was leading a toddler group in the same area, with some other parents. Some of these toddlers were heading to school so it was time for a change for the younger ones!

Annie delivered a ‘coached’ session with an experienced session leader, and then complete our Cooking from Scratch with Young Children course. We supported her to get funding from her local Town Council for this.

Annie says:

“So far I’ve led four sessions and hope to carry on leading one a month in my local community centre. I’d also like to do some sessions in Trowbridge (the next town) at some point in the future.

I’ve learnt how much preparation there is behind these sessions…and how important it is to have a good plan.”

What have the challenges been?

“I find the email/computer side challenging as I don’t seem to have any time to do these things! (even making a poster) and I don’t have a computer or printer. So admin type tasks that surround a session I find hard to keep on top of.

What sort of support have you been able to get from Kids Kitchen?

I’ve had support with getting funding and planning sessions/getting equipment. Also from the network (responses to questions about recipes and equipment). I definitely wouldn’t have done this without Rebecca’s enthusiasm and encouragement and having her there for the first session was invaluable.
