Last week we returned to the Redwell Centre in Matson to make Bonza Beany Burgers – yum! Everyone got stuck in – mashing, chopping, mixing – and most importantly, munching!
Here’s the recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 tin of beans (we used kidney beans)
- 1 onion
- 1 carrot
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- Handful of fresh coriander
- 50g flour
- Vegetable or sunflower oil
- Lettuce
- Buns
- Ketchup
METHOD:
- DRAIN and RINSE the beans
- Put the beans in a saucepan with cold water and bring to the boil. COOK for 10 mins
- PEEL and CHOP the onion
- PEEL and GRATE the carrot
- Gently FRY the vegetables with some oil in a pan for a few minutes until soft. ADD the spices about halfway through
- ADD the beans to the veg and MASH
- SNIP some coriander leaves and add to the mix
- MIX in one or two teaspoons of flour until the mixture comes together
- SHAPE the burgers, ROLL in flour, and FRY in a bit of oil
- SLICE the buns, add ketchup, lettuce – or anything else you fancy!

We’re looking forward to our next session at the Redwell Centre on Thursday 12th December, when we’ll be cooking another delicious Kids Kitchen recipe together and spreading some festive cheer! Save your spot here.
