The Sticky Mitts team has developed a series of activity programmes, based around 6 different recipes. The resources also include 30 wipe clean recipe cards for each activity. The recipes have been chosen specifically to:
- cover different skills,
- to take account of food standards agency guidelines such as encouraging children to try oily fish, use fresh ingredients, eat more vegetables, and reduce salt intake,
- to take account of the limited equipment and facilities available in most primary schools.
The activity programmes contain teachers' notes to support a minimum of two hours worth of well constructed and researched activities to enable a whole class or group to:
- Learn some specific cooking skills and produce a tasty and delicious dish.
- Try out related foods, experimenting with taste and textures, identifying healthy options and alternatives.
- Learn how the ingredients are grown, processed and transported.
- Test and extend their knowledge in a fun quiz or activity.
- Find out information about useful sites where they can go to learn more.
- Take a copy of the printed recipe to cook at home.
Each Kids Kitchen chef also receives a Kids Kitchen Passport to Cooking. As each dish is tried, cooked and enjoyed, a sticker is attached to the Passport, and when the Passport is full, it is sent to Head Chef Rob who will send them a Certificate to reward their progress!
